Terra
Drum & Lace joins Mesh with a new EP of five tracks exploring the pulse, and greater mythologies, of the natural world. Terra is out Friday 13th March.

Terra comprises a collection of meditations on human existence, tapping folkloric traditions and the breadth of electronic music. Using Italian lyrics for the first time, the London-based musician considers the ancient lands she grew up in, and the complex lore that overlooks nature, history, and technology.

‘Lichen’ opens with gradually unfurling harmonic cycles that progress with cinematic scope. ‘Rings’ pairs floating vocals and entrancing build-ups over skeletal drum patterns. ‘La Riva’ is a high speed masterclass in tension and release. Title track ‘Terra’ taps into an epic melancholia, with lamenting voices flowing over subtle chromatic harmonies. Rounding things off, ‘Fiamma’ is a free-form structure built of rich vocals that burst through the speakers before disappearing into thin air.

Across its five tracks, Terra sketches a map of connection, bridging disparate realities into a declaration of beauty in nature.

In Drum & Lace’s own words, ‘Terra is a new body of work that was written with a strong connection to roots & belonging. This EP feels like my attempt at a folkloristic approach to electronic music- the fast paced rhythms and beats being juxtaposed with lyrics that feel connected to the ancient lands that I grew up in, in Florence (Italy). The use of Italian lyrics, my first time doing so, felt apropos for these poems dedicated to the earth that has shaped me, and are deeply connected to the nature that I’ve lived. Each track is connected to a story personal to me, but also hopes to serve as a wider and relatable metaphor of the (human) existence.’
